Where To Stay In Bangkok

With its bustling streets and small soi,s , deciding where to stay in Bangkok comes down to how close you will be to all that Bangkok has to offer. Bangkok has several main areas for tourist accomodation and Sukhumvit rd is the central hub to it all.

I've had the pleasure of staying in many locations around Bangkok city and most of them have been in and around the main city areas of terminal 21 shopping centre and Khao san rd area.

Luxurious, elegant Thai-inspired design

If you are looking to be in and around the shopping areas then Sukhumvit rd is the perfect place to be as its close to all transport amenities like the BTS, MRT, Buses and of course taxis. Its close to terminal 21 , Asoke and Nana bts , Sukhumvit mrt Emsphere shopping centre Bangkok's newest and of course the infamous red light areas of Nana plaza at soi 4

Don't let the red light area put you off though as its full of interesting bars and places to eat as its in the hustle and bustle of the main area.

Khao San Rd

Definitely the party place for backpacker in bangkok for 20-35 yr olds and those coming to bangkok for a short time

Khao San Rd in Bangkok

Khao san Rd

This used to me go to place for staying in Bangkok until i decided to stay here more permanently. Its ideal as a first timer to explore markets and bar areas.

The now famous Khao san rd is usually where all the backpackers go but over the years its transformed itself to a haven of food carts, bars and night market for getting those bargains before settling down to a meal somewhere. This is probably one of the cheapest areas in bangkok for accommodation as its full of budget hotels offering single or double style rooms with a scattering of dorm style bunk beds.

There are also some great places to stay by the river around this area too with one that i would highly recommend in the Norn Riverside Hotel a friendly boutique style hotel with friendly staff all round and a budget that would suit most travellers

Siam/Pratunam

Pratunam is a haven for shoppers looking for budget bargains and wholesale shopping. Its home to Central World, Siam paragon and its neighboring shopping centres with Siam Square nestled in between.

Central World - Pratunam

Although Siam is served on the Siam Bts line it doesn't go all the way into Pratunam. Getting in and out from around the Baiyoke centre in and around the Pratunam shopping areas can be troublesome to say the least. I've waited 30 mins just to get a  bus to khao san rd to these areas in peak times with tuk tuks asking larger than life pricing.

Silom

Silom is the least well known area in bangkok, it's a little bit like your next door neighbour that doesn't say too much. It is served by the BTS at Sala Daeng and the Mrt at Si lom and is well known for its nightlife with the more famous patpong night market and red light district.

Don't be confused by this though as it harbours some of the nicest hotels in bangkok. At the eastern end is the famous Lumpini park covering 142 acres.

Here you can unwind and relax with a cold drink and feel like your not even in Bangkok. Its a must see for all tourists coming to Thailand.
The Hangover: Part 2 made this area famous and hosts the Sky Bar on the 63rd floor of the Lebua State Tower. Its the top spot in Bangkok to hang out and admire the stunning views across the city although make sure you take your wallet as it can be pricey.
