The main way is by boat. Depending on where you're coming from, you have a few travel options. If you’re in Ao Nang, long-tail boats whisk you away, with frequent departures throughout the day. Just check the boat schedules to avoid missing your ride!

Alternatively, you can hop on a ferry from Krabi town, which also offers routes to Railay. The beauty of the journey is undeniable as you glide over the turquoise waters, surrounded by limestone cliffs.

Hop on a ferry from Krabi town and glide over turquoise waters, embraced by stunning limestone cliffs on your way to Railay.

Its 200 baht return per person however if your like me and only wanted to go for the morning you may have to pay a premium to come back.

We left at 8.30am and needed to be back by 11.30 to check out of our accommodation. Fortunately despite being the only 2 ppl needing to come back and having a return ticket we needed to go to the south end of the beach where the return ticket boats were located.

longtails at the end of railay beach

If we had only purchased a 1 way ticket we could have got on the other boats that seemed to be more freelance for a cost of 200 Baht each as long as there were at least  5/6 ppl. Its a standard 800 baht per boat if you need a private hire one way.
As people were checking out to leave and those people being on one way tickets, if you wish to go early and come back early getting a one way ticket would be more optimal so then you can grab one of the freelance boats taking people back who are checking out of their hotels.

Rock Climbing

There are plenty of places around the small township that offer Rock climbing. It doesn't matter what level you are as they all cater for beginners also as well as experienced climbers

Snorkeling

When its summer season the waters are clear and warmer and snorkeling is a favourite pastime. Wet season often brings fine weather but interrupting rainfall from fast approaching storms can make thee water dirty not to mention dangerous and the water can change very quickly.

Kayaking

I was there in late August 2025 and even then during wet season there were people hiring kayaks. As long as its not too roughly its a great way to pass the time away.

Sunset and Sunrise

Clearly the most enjoyable thing to watch is the sunrises and sunsets. Both are equally as beautiful although wet season can be often cloudy so its not as nice. With the sun rising in the east and setting in the west its not hard to see both with it being just a 5 min walk from one side to the other. New bars and hotels are going uop all the time and there are several places to sit relax and watch a nice sunset with a cold drink.

Cultural, caves, and wildlife experiences

Rich in culturehidden caves, and fascinating wildlife. The traditions of the local community drew me in, showcasing their artistic expressions and rituals.

I also explored enchanting caves that whispered stories of ancient times, each one a secret waiting to be uncovered.

  • Participating in traditional dance performances
  • Kayaking through limestone caves and lagoons

Its about a 15 min walk from East side and the pathway is mostly concreted now. Once you get to the beach there is a shrine on the left side of the beach with the caves to the northern end which has two sections to it.
The first section is the main beach with the famous karst mountain that railay is famous for and then there is the 2nd section that leads to the caves above the beach.
