Bang Tao Beach, Phuket

Bang Tao Beach sits on the northwest coast of Phuket, about 20 kilometres south of the airport — far enough from Patong to feel like a different island, close enough to get there when you want a big night out.

The beach runs for several kilometres, backed by casuarina trees and a mix of large resorts and local restaurants. The water is calmer than the south coast beaches, the sand is wide, and the pace is slower. That's the main draw.

The vibe here is a mix of lively yet calm atmosphere, with beachfront bars and nightlife that keeps things exciting.

About Bang Tao Beach

Bang Tao Beach is one of the best beaches in phuket and has a calm and cool vibe that sets it apart from busier areas on the island. There is a lovely golden sand beach with calm waves.

Here, you’ll find a diverse crowd—whether its lounging under trees, or engaging in water sports. This mis of relaxation and activity makes the beach feel exciting yet unhurried.

I often notice families enjoying picnics alongside couples sitting in the sun, all sharing and relaxing.
Whether you’re here to unwind or seek a bit of adventure, A Bang Tao Beach day trip strikes the perfect balance, for all who come to enjoy it.

To get to Bang Tao Beach, I recommend using a taxi or a ride-sharing app for convenience.

If you're feeling adventurous, renting a scooter can be a fun way to explore the area. Public buses are also available from the airport and return with set stops with the phuket smart bus at  100 Baht per trip

Swimming And Water conditions

Whether your a  swimmer or just looking to dip your toes in the water, Bang Tao Beach offers something that most people will enjoy.

The water clarity is really good, and you can see the sandy bottom as you walk in. The waves invite you to swim further, but always keep swimming safety in mind. Pay attention to the lifeguards on duty and heed any local guidelines about currents.

The shallow areas are great for young families, while the deeper spots are ideal for those craving a little adventure. There's a certain freedom that comes with swimming through the clear water, and it’s hard not to feel exhilarated.

Who Bang Tao Beach Is Best For

Whether you're a family looking for a fun-filled day at the beach or a solo traveler seeking adventure, Bang Tao Beach caters to a diverse crowd.

I’ve seen families building sandcastles while teens plunge into water sports like jet skiing and parasailing. For those of us who crave relaxation, sunbathing is relaxing for most.

The beach activities are endless, from beach volleyball games to leisurely swims in the clear waters. As the sun sets  local cuisine smells fills the air, inviting you to indulge in fresh seafood at nearby eateries.

Things To Do at Bang Tao Beach

  • Beach volleyball
  • Hiring a sun lounger and umbrella for the day
  • Spending a session at one of the beach clubs (see below)
  • Watching the sunset — Settle with a drink and relax as the sun goes down

Where To Stay at Bang Tao Beach

Find the Perfect Stay at Bang Tao Beach

Bang Tao has a wider spread of accommodation than most Phuket beaches. At the top end, the Laguna Phuket complex covers a large chunk of the beachfront — a cluster of hotels including Banyan Tree, Angsana, and Cassia sharing a lagoon and direct beach access. Expensive, but genuinely well done.

Mid-range options exist but you'll need to look a little inland — true beachfront at Bang Tao doesn't come at mid-range prices. Pai Tan VIllas are only 150 metres from the beach and are ideal.

If you're coming between November and February, book ahead. The decent rooms fill up and last-minute options get limited.

Resorts – Enjoy beachfront access, private pools, and top-notch service.

Bang Tao Beach Clubs & Nightlife

Beach clubs are very popular due to the higher class of people that frequent bang tao beach. That doesnt mean its not for everyone however the average person doesn't really want to pay to then pay to drink and eat. The difference is that in a beach bar you get to relax in cabanas, loungers and just enjoy the more serene parts of a beach club rather on the sand itself.
You can buy drinks all day long and eat when you like and watch the sunsetting.
Beach clubs usually have Music or Djs spinning tracks up to keep you entertained its a real party atmosphere that is becoming more and more popular.
Unfortunately most have a pretty expenpensive access fee plus food and drinks.

Catch Beach Club

Catch beach club has everything you would need for a great day out including the drink and food options. Catch can supply wines from all over the world at prices to match.
Day Pass - The day pass allows you to access the lounge chairs, with towels umbrella and access to changing rooms. The pass isn't cheap however it usually includes 50% of the cost in food credit.
Lunch/Dinner/Buffets - Any of these options is going to cost you way more than eating at street vendors or the local restaurant. These beach clubs are usually exclusive and priced the same way. The average cost of a lunch is around 2200 Baht and cocktail tables can be  7500 Baht for up to  4 people with a bottle included usually vodka or wine.  Dinner options are usually a minimum spend per person of around 2/2200 Baht

Tours & Activities Near Bang Tao Beach

Explore Phuket with Exciting Tours

The easiest day trip from Bang Tao is Phi Phi Islands — full-day boat tours leave from nearby piers, most include lunch and a snorkelling stop, and you can book through your hotel the night before or from any tour desk on the main road.

If a full day on a boat sounds like too much, half-day island trips around the Phuket coast are a shorter option. Kayaking and paddleboarding hire is available on the beach itself — good for an hour or two if you want to be active without committing to a full excursion.

For something land-based, cooking classes and temple visits are easy to organise through most hotels. A visit to Wat Cherngtalay temple or a cooking class near Bang Tao such as the Thai cooking class and market tour in Bangtao beach

Getting out early on boat trips (before 9am) makes a noticeable difference — calmer water and fewer people at the snorkel spots.
